Juicing a boring asteroid game: Microbian Fighter

During my first year of game design at Isart Digital, one of the graded exercises was to “juice up” a very boring game.

We weren’t allowed to modify the game’s code, but we could add sound effects, music, particles, squash-and-stretch effects, visual assets, haptic feedback, etc…

The starting game was the following :

And here’s what i turned it into :

I chose the “microbian” theme because the asteroids breaking in the original game made me think of cellular meiosis.
